Why the Cotswolds?
The southern Cotswolds is one of the quieter, less-visited parts of the AONB, and all the better for it. The villages here have the same golden limestone architecture and unhurried character as the more famous spots further north, without the summer crowds. It’s a landscape built for slow travel: long walks along field-edge paths, lunch in a pub that’s been serving the same village for three hundred years, and evenings simply to relax.
Bath is the natural anchor for any stay. A UNESCO World Heritage Site and the only city of its kind in England, it rewards repeat visits, the Roman Baths, the Royal Crescent, and a restaurant scene that punches well above its size. It’s also a genuine base for wider exploration. The Cotswold Way starts here, connecting walkers all the way north to Chipping Campden through some of the finest countryside in southern England. Castle Combe, Lacock, Bradford-on-Avon, and Westonbirt Arboretum are all within easy reach. So are Bristol, and the market towns of Tetbury and Malmesbury.
