Summer challenge: blackberry painting
29 August 2024This week, we're going to get a little messy and have some fun with nature. It's time to paint with blackberries!
Why use blackberries?
Blackberries are a natural pigment that can create beautiful shades of purple and pink. They're also a great way to connect with nature and learn about the plants that grow around us.
What you'll need:
- A handful of ripe blackberries
- A bowl
- A spoon
- A paintbrush
- A piece of paper or cardboard
- A cup of water
Instructions:
- Collect your blackberries: Ask an adult to help you find a safe place to pick blackberries. Be careful not to pick berries that are green or unripe. Be careful of the thorns!
- Make your paint: Mash the blackberries in a bowl using a spoon, the bottom of a bottle or pestle. Add a little water to create a thinner or thicker consistency. Mind your fingers!
- Paint your masterpiece: Use your paintbrush to apply the blackberry paint to your paper or cardboard. You can create any design you like.
Tips:
- Blackberries can stain your hands and clothes, so it's best to wear old clothes and gloves.
- You can use a variety of surfaces to paint on, such as paper, cardboard, or even rocks.
- If you don't have any blackberries, you can try using other natural pigments, such as blueberries or beetroot.
